Wendy's

Oh God, I miss Wendy's old fashioned hamburgers. I haven't had a single taste of the burger for more than ten years. The last time I ate at burger from Wendy's was when my father came back from Taiwan with cardboard boxes of Wendy's burgers. But of course, that period of time when Wendy's was very much a part of my daily diet stopped when Wendy's decided to close all the shops in Taiwan. You can't find it anymore, not around any corners along any streets. I heard that they used to have it in Singapore as well, but I guess the mediocrity of McDonald's and Burger King somehow took over Wendy's utter brilliance as a fast food chain. I do not deny that I patronize McDonald's every once in a while, but that is only because my favorite fast food chain - Subway - is always so far away. McDonald's, however, is everywhere. In fact, the famous 'M' logo of McDonald's is more recognized than the symbol of Christianity - the cross. Statistically speaking of course, but still. The fast food giants have taken over what should be the dominate fast food in Singapore, and all over the world as well. I love Wendy's, and I do wish for them to come back soon. Though the burgers are probably going to be different, seeing the logo with the little redhead girl is going to be a welcoming sight sometime soon.

Before that actually happens, I have done some research on the fast food chain's worldwide coverage. It seems like the rumor Naz has been feeding me about the existence of Wendy's in Malaysia is false. It doesn't exist there anymore, and the only country smart enough to have Wendy's now is the Philippines, which gives Hannah a little something to buy the next time she goes back there. In the mean time, I might have to play a little road trip with Ahmad all the way up to Malaysia to check out their A&W branches. I'm not a crazy fan of the fast food chain with that brown bear standing at the entrance, but it was my lunchtime companion in the past when I had class tuitions at Hougang area. I remember dropping by the A&W for its hotdogs and float. Those were the good old days man, good old days. The slot where the shop was is now replaced by Old Chang Kee or something like that, that I'm not certain. But at least they still have A&Ws in Malaysia, one reason for me to visit there all over again.

For now, I am adding one more entry to my list of "Reasons to Visit the States, despite the fact that we have to change our passports in the process". Wendy's burger, I heard that they line the streets in the States like lamp posts. It may just be a biased description with much exaggeration, but at least the abundance is guaranteed in relative to Singapore's scarcity of good fast food. Don't ask me why I suddenly have a craving for Wendy's right now, but you know how nostalgia brings more than just memories of the past, but that insatiable hunger too. Which is not a good thing, considering the fact that I cannot find a single Wendy's chain in a one thousand mile radius. I wonder if they sell Wendy's burgers on eBay and Amazon.com.

Wendy's IS coming back. Berjaya Corp has signed an agreement to open up Wendy's in Malaysia. One outlet is still under renovation in Sunway Pyramid. It should open its doors prolly after Chinese New Year this year.
