Feng Shui

My aunt came to visit just recently,without my knowledge actually.Waking through the door humming a song on Friday night,she was there by the dining table.That gave me quite a shock,i must admit.Apparently she got her hands on some cheap SQ tickets,and got herself flying to Singapore on Tuesday.

Anyway,she got into a conversation about Feng Shui the other day with my mother after watching some show on television regarding that same subject.Both of them are pretty religious people,i'd say.Which is funny,because ive always been pretty objective to such claims.Superstition was never my thing,i guess.And they were really engaged in this conversation they had.I was there,i couldnt take it anymore.

Me,"That's just a whole bunch of bullshit."
Aunt,"You are too young to understand."
Me,"You are too old to realise that you are wrong."
Aunt,"You should read this book about Feng Shui studies..."
Me,"What is there to study?I'd rather talk about the weather,at least it's real."
Aunt,"You dont understand."
Me,"You are the confused one here."

It is human nature,in a way,to create believe that there is a force that governs this world,like the existence of religion.Religion is not a bad thing,of course,if you dont worship the wrong God or practise the wrong things,or kill people in the name of God.Religion,as a whole,is a good thing.But i never really liked the idea of it,how people place their full devotion about it like their whole life depends on you.

People are treating themselves as remote controlled toy cars somehow,and religion is battery.Without the battery they cannot work,and they remain where they are,stuck in the course of life.But the fact is,i think,that there is more to religion.

Similarly,i never believed in Feng Shui.There are some absurdity in religion,but Feng Shui is worse.They dont make any sense at all.No scientific basis to their claims,and worse of all the Shifus provide stupid explanations as to why a certain family member is suffering from diseases,getting into car accidents,law suits,or how the family always quarrel over things.

According to these lame explanations,they are caused by a certain furniture placed in the wrong place,the bed facing the wrong way,your neighbour's television cable is blocking your chi,the door is build in the wrong manner,or simply because your house itself is facing some wrong direction,a degree or two off the right co-ordinates.

I dont understand how people can accept the fact that their lives are governed by furnitures,or dead structures like a bloody television or fridge.How their personalities react to the placement of certain objects,the idea of it is just plain ridiculous to me in every single way.

Humans like to put blame on things,i think.It's human nature to want to do such a thing,because it pushes blame away.When your car is wrecked in a crash,when you had a big fight with your wife,you blame the blood bed because it is facing the toilet.When there are things,people around you to blame,you blame them for everything that happened to you,but never yourself.You never reflect,that perhaps the reason lies with you,and not because of some stupid furniture.It's ridiculous.

So,theoretically speaking,the ShiFus have the most perfect home ever,right?Every furniture in their houses would be placed just in the right position,every corner of the house checked and re-checked,with the neighbours thoroughly inspected and checked for anything that might affect your own house.So technically you will never get into any car accidents,get any diseases,live happily ever after,right?

Wouldnt that make you an immortal?Funny how nobody is,though.

Feng Shui,what a joke.
