Waiting on the World to Change

Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could
Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it...

There was a documentary i watched on National Geographic a couple of weeks back during the Bible Week.It was on the Armaggeddon, the coming of the Anti-Christ and stuff. The detail of those aside, but basically it is saying that there is a way to predict the end of the world,a way to know when we are all going to meet our judgement day.I dont remember much, but i vaguely remember a part of the documentary mentioning something about the Anti-Christ leading a war, influencing men to fight against one another, causing death and destruction.War,was one of the many signs of the end of the world, alongside flood, fire and all sorts of natural disasters.

The latter signs aside,i think we are closer to the end of the world than we've ever been since the return of Christ. That is of course,if the prophecy i s true.Anyway,a lunch out with a few friends of mine last weekend was enlightening in a way,i didnt notice at that moment.Perhaps it was the context the comment was made,or the way my friend said it,but i remember at that time i didnt take that comment too seriously.I mean,it was a nice day out with friends, though over bad food,we still had a good time over some drinks and small talks.I wasnt in the mood for anything religious and political, but i guess inevitably any conversation, especially in today's context, boils down to those.

"I think a global war is going to occur any time now",was what she said suddenly over a cup of coke and a bad slice of cake.Until now,a week later,do i realised the magnitude of that statement made. The new John Mayer song must have provoked that thought inside of me,the way it all suddenly made perfect sense.Which is true,in a very terrifying and daunting way.How everywhere around the world, there is some kind of conflict or war going on,unknown to people in Singapore.Let's face it,Singaporeans are in general, ignorant.Ignorance is bliss,a motto Singaporeans strongly believe.

You start to wonder what all these blood shed are for,if anything is going to be resolved through more blood shed.An eye for an eye doesnt work in real world context, certainly not when millions of people are in question here, and when the gamble involved are human lives and so many other things. The world now,to me,is like a chess game. The board is set, though the pieces are not moving yet.The world is the black and white checkered boxes, with the pieces as the countries at war now.The US,Israel,Lebanon, some African countries, etc. All we need is somebody to ignite the fuse, somebody to trigger the button and everything will erupt and explode into a stupendous display of blood and terror. The peace stands on the edge of a knife now, stray by a little and it will fall.Somebody, somewhere, makes a comment, kills somebody, kidnaps somebody else, and soon we will see bullets and missiles rocketing above our heads, while we hide in an underground bunker with no more than bottled water and ration, silent tears and soft prayers.

Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door

And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

I was telling my friend how the conflicts now are fought over the most stupid things. The wars in the past, the battles fought. For some reason all of those seem to have been fought over a just cause. The Germans in both World Wars, and the Japanese in the second. The Communists in the Vietnam war as well as the Korean war.Hitler's agression, the Axis' uprise, everything. The soldiers and the people died for a reason, and that reason, for some reason,is honorable.

But not now,the way the Middle East is in a mess.Let's face it,i think however peaceful Islam proclaims itself to be,i think too many Muslims are distortng the true meaning behind that religion.Bending the facts to their own advantages, using religion as a reason to kill others,to get what they want and stuff.Right now wars are fought for the dumbest thing ever, and you wonder everytime it rains,if God is shedding his tears for mankind,if the end of the world really is coming.Imagine a game created by this guy, this board game. You play with him,and when he is about to lose at his own game he twists the rules so he wins. That is exactly how the people are changing the teachings of Islam to their own cause, taking advantage of that to destroy somebody else.

Remember those songs a bunch of singers do,come together and unite for the world songs?"We Are the World","What's Going On?",songs like that?Well,i think those dont work anymore.I mean,no matter how many verses you have, how loud your choruses are,no matter how many records you sell, the people behind the war are not going to listen, are they? They love the wet sound of blood gushing from throats, the sound of money flipping around their ears, the national anthem of his own country played over the streets of a country newly conquered,or the sound of explosions, people screaming as a car bomb blows half a residential building away in the distance.

People dont listen anymore, and what is the most we can do?We cant stop war from happening by buying records.Ideally, sure that will work. But it is not going to solve anything.Look,if it works then the Middle East wouldnt have fought for so fucking long, over the dumbest reasons.

"Change is the only constant".If you believe that this quote is true, that everything is going to change, then i guess we dont need to do anything for this madness to end.Because everything is going to resolve itself at the very end.Because nature finds its way, everytime.Because there is still good in this world, and it is war fighting for, even if it means that we put down our arms and embrace our differences.Even if it means, that we are going to stand where we are,and wait for something to happen, for a blood-free absolution.

And we're still waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting waiting on the world to change

One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change...
