Neon

When sky blue gets dark enough
To see the colors of the city lights
A trail of ruby red and diamond white
Hits her like a sunrise

She comes and goes and comes and goes
Like no one can

The air was salty, blowing from the sea towards the coast of Marina Bay.Gusts of salty wind, filling up my nostrils and tasting instead,of bittersweet. The sky was turning darker as the watch on Invis' hand ticked slowly down towards eight, and the band on the first floor did a brief soundcheck. The emcee introduced, the lead singer greeted the audience, and off went the night of Boogie and Woogie.

I've never been to the viewing gallery at the top of the Esplanade. The two durians rose up from either sides into the night air, like bald heads of two giants buried underneath tonnes of bricks and cement. The haze was gone in the night, the strange barbeque smell of burning grass was gone.Replaced by it,the mouth watering smell of grilled chicken and bakery, coming up from below. The both of us leaned against the parapet, with our heads over the edge, careless.

Tonight she's out to lose herself
And find a high on Peachtree Street
From mixed drinks to techno beats it's always
Heavy into everything

The trees swayed gently to the breeze, the crowd below swayed to the oldies. The fat singer bounced and jumped, the African kids before the stage waved and danced. The sound of drums bouncing off the glass of the library below our feet, and customers under giant umbrellas below, clapped to the beats of the song. The lights flickered, the staged turned from red to blue. The rest of the bay turned into pitch black, the light from the buildings beyond shining bright.

She comes and goes and comes and goes
Like no one can
She comes and goes and no one knows
She's slipping through my hands

She's always buzzing just like
Neon, neon
Neon, neon
Who knows how long, how long, how long
She can go before she burns away

The lights reflected on the choppy waves, stretched longer than it is upon the black water. The shadows of the light, casting itself on the surface, only to be swallowed by the darkness. We admired the city lights and the skyline, while couples all around us embraced and kissed, moved to the music and disappeared into a dark corner.Everybody minded their own businesses, and upon the rooftop everything was clear.

I can't be her angel now
You know it's not my place to hold her down
And it's hard for me to take a stand
When I would take her anyway I can
