When the Haze Comes Part III: Instructions

Mr. Kaufman released his grip from my forehead. The hint of the warmth still lingered on my skin.I opened my eyes, and before me was a gate of sorts, black and strong.I had a staircase that led downwards, spiralling seemingly endlessly down, but the shadows were not black, but white as it was casted on the walls of the stairecase by the light shining from above.Mr. Kaufman opened the gate, and he motioned for me to go down the steps.

'Where does it lead?' i asked,a little afraid to take the steps.

'Down.'

'To?'

'Her.'

'Who?'

'Rachel.'

'Where is she?'

'She is in a place i call The Hazy World,a place between Heaven and Hell.It is a sin to kill oneself, and thus that person is not permitted in Heaven. However, the ones who asked for forgiveness do not enter Hell either. So they pick a place in their memory,a part of their lives still vivid to them. They remain there till eternity, and the reminder of the life before acts as the punishment.'

'And why am i joining her?'

'Join? No,not joining. This is the Path of Redemption,to redeem yourself before the Gates of Heaven.'

'Redeem myself?'

'Rachel sinned,James. But she sinned because of you.You do not have the pass to Heaven, not yet. This is the final test, the last journey you must take before you go on.'

'And at the end of this path?'

'Rachel.'

'What...what am i supposed to do?Or say?I mean...i dont know.'

'You will,James. You will. When death comes into play, all colours are vibrant and all thoughts are clear.Death is a clarity James,in contrary to life's complexities.'

'Okay, let's say i do talk to Rachel, and i do redeem myself. How do i get back to you? Will i be able to get back to you?'

'Look for the haze,James. When it comes, you'd know.'

'Haze?'

'I will say no more.'
