Audrey Hepburn
I remember looking through youtube.com for some documentaries on Anne Frank while i was reading her diary, when i came upon a video of Audrey Hepburn reading a part of Anne's diary to the camera.I knew about her existence, and her importance in cinematic history. But to tell you the truth, she was merely just another actress back then, probably somebody on the same level with say...Julie Andrews. But as i dug deeper into Audrey Hepburn's older movies, watching her old videos and then a documentary about her,a sudden respect and love grew within me for this wonderfully talented actress,as well as a sense of peace and comfort whenever she comes onto screen.
I dont know when it all started, but i started downloading her pictures and watching her videos.I even changed my desktop's wallpaper to her picture from Breakfast at Tiffany's.When my mother saw that, she shook her head once more,as if further proved that i was the old man of the household. But i dont deny that fact, for i am the one watching movies that are more than thirty years old, listening to songs my mother listened to when she was a teenager(My mother was pleasantly surprised when i have heard of Simon & Garfunkel). The truth is,i am the old man while my father and sister are the kids.I was woken up by my sister turning on my computer early yesterday morning. She said she was checking if the internet connection on my computer was working, and when the wallpaper showed up,the conversation was as follows:
Me,"Isn't she beautiful?"
Sister,"Who is she?"
Me,"Audrey Hepburn.I think she is beautiful."
Sister,"Never heard of her."
Me,"Don't you think she is classy?Mysterious and elegant all at once?"
Sister,"Maybe a little thinner."
Yes,my sister is yet another victim of today's perspective of beauty.Besides,it's not like Audrey Hepburn was fat,or anything remotely close to that.I dont even know what my sister's view on being overweight is.I wonder if i am overweight in her eyes as well.Bloody ridiculous.
Anyway, there was a guy in the documentary i saw, when he was talking about Hepburn's death in 1993.He said, that her death was the kind of death that never settled in,that it was impossible to concieve that she was gone. But the truth is that she is gone, died from colon cancer apparently, and there goes the real life angel,a gift from the big man up above. While casting for Steven Spielberg's 'Always' in 1989,everybody was troubled with the casting of an angel, but no actress could live up to that kind of image. That changed when someone in the room suggested Audrey Hepburn, then everybody sighed and was comforted.Because she was,and is,an angel in everybody's heart. Not just because of her as an actress, but also her efforts in Somalia and Jordan, and so many more third world countries after she retired from the silver screen, and represented the UNICEF to travel the world in aid of children under political suppression. She was the real angel, truly.
So i'd like to take a moment,to allow everything to settle in for you guys.I'd like you guys,to honor this angel who is no longer with us now.You can never replace Audrey Hepburn now,not any actress in today's world. She lived in an era when sex didnt sell, when celebrities prefered to stay in the sidelines and live a simple life.Find somebody who dislikes her.Just try.You will never find somebody who does,or find somebody to take her place.Because, after all,she is the one and only,Audrey Hepburn.

"..."The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God.As long as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles..."

You are right in every single way. I read a book that involved Audrey Hepburn. After that, it just all took off. I started watching more and more of her movies, and I just never stopped. She truly was an angel sent down from above. And even though she was sent back, she will always be with us in our hearts! No one could EVER replace her, and not one person could refuse her beauty. Thank you for the lovely praise to our dear Audrey.
