Twisted World of Me

I didnt have a watch then, guessing the time by the singing of the crickets in the bushes, the rising and falling of my chest, the rustle in the trees. But nothing then was rhythmic enough for me to fall asleep, out there on the wet grass and the damp leaves drooping over my head.I hugged myself tighter, and tried to get some warmth as the tempterature continued to dip.It wasnt too comfortable out there, with my rifle next to me and the dust coated SBO as my only form of pillow. It wasnt too bad at first, but the mosquitoes came and invaded my peace out there in the field, and went into my jacket, causing a racket around my ears.I zipped all the way up,hoping to get rid of the buzzing pests, but the more i did so the harder i found it to breathe, and soon enough i found myself drifting into an uncomfortable and disturbed sleep.

Buzz.

I was in a castle of some kind, and there was a courtyard of stone. It was the night, and the weather was fine,a little humid but cooling as well. There were torches burning upon the walls, lined down the corridors and i was in the middle of it,wondering where the hell i was.A tree rustled somewhere, and i wandered around the empty fortress, wondering if anybody was going to hear my call.Just then, right at the corner of the far wall was a shelf full of books, rising up into the sky till it disappeared into the night sky.I took a book out,and it was a book written by a person called F. Spirit.I didnt recognise him,nor have i read any of his books. Then a man's voice iterrupted my thoughts from the left, and i jumped as he appeared from the shadow into the light of the fire.He sort of looked like Shakespear,or somebody that wouldve easily from his era.He was in one of those anciet wardrobe, and his hair was somewhat similar to Shakespear's as well.Im not too sure what he said to me,but i was sure as hell freaked out that this...man,who looked like somebody out of a one hundred dollar bill was freaky.Buzz.I started running.Buzz.I dont know why.Buzz.I wasnt even afraid.Buzz.Was i?

Buzz.

I woke up,and the moon was right in the centre of the night sky now.ShiWei's fidgeting in his camo-scarf,finding a position to sleep.Ah Soon was snoring softly with the crickets, and upon his ground sheet he looked peaceful, and the night was young as the moon hung low, with the top half of it covered in shadow, like the bending of the side of a potato chip.

I didnt know the time, and all i could do was guess. It mustve been a while i imagine, how the moon was initially hidden behind the bamboo tree, and now in it's full glory before my eyes,as i laid there still in the damp wet grass and ground, wrapped up in my jacket, still battling mosquitoes instead of my supposed human enemies. It was getting cold, and you really wonder if it is possible for Singapore to get THIS cold. But sure enough,i thought i saw my own breath as i breathed through the small hole between the zip, concentrating on the starless sky.

Out of nowhere stood that bamboo tree, and the top of it sprouted out, reaching out for the sky in a spray of branches. In the moonlight, and the shadow of the leaves casted against the sky, they looked like sihoutetted birds.Millions of time, flying away from somewhere,to some place unknown.I imagined the leaves of the bamboo to be the wings of a million birds, just flapping them endlessly. But somehow, pulled back by some unknown force, the branch holding them back.It was a beautiful sight, but at the same time i tint of sadness as well.I framed that image with the thumb and index fingers of my hands, and made a mental picture of that very moment.

Buzz.

I was on a cold bench, the material for the pants i was wearing not thick enough to prevent the chillness of the metal penetrating.I shivered, and it was raining outside the room where i was.But it wasnt a room, but a cell.A cell for prisoners, and on my right the barred gates stood, and beyond that a blur to my eyes.I heard whisperings from the next cell, and screaming from far off.I couldnt make out the words, and that desperate concentrationg to hang on to the inaudible words was broken by arms grasped around tight around my shoulders.

I was led to the room outside the cell, and before me was a electric chair.Above it was a window, but like the gate which i came through,it was barred as well.Autumn leaves fell through the lighted window, and fell on the seat of the electric chair, and brought along with it the leftovers of the rain that came and went.I stared for a while, and was forced to sit on the chair and was strapped down.I dont remember fear,no pain,no any remorse as i sat there waiting for my execution.I felt the metal through my skin and into my bones, and the strap upon my head tightening to the pull of the guard's arms.My fist clenched, and the seat was wet.I wonder if that is going to screw up the electrocution,i wonder if i was going to be fried like the guy from The Green Mile.Buzz.Somebody screamed from down the hallway.Buzz.I couldnt make out the words.Buzz.But as much as i was anxious about the chair.Buzz.The sound of the man's yelling resonating in my mind a thousand times louder and more.

Buzz.

The moon has disappeared, replaced by nothingness. The birds lost their flight, and the night was growing old gradually.A rover droved down the road, the lonely headlights shone dully, and the blue lightstick swaying to the bumps on the road.Far off the sound of little explosions and gunfire, the mission has started at the front line.

I yawned, and licked my dry lips with the tip of my tongue. There was sand in my hand, and i didnt know why.I wonder when it was, that i dug my fingers into the soil next to me.The bottle felt damp, like everything else,as i placed the opening to my lips, and drank my fill.As for the rest,i poured the icey water over my head, and in the middle of the night i admit,i let out a small yelp and cursed.

My heart was still bouncing to the dreams, and there in the middle of nowhere i wondered about the implcations.Probably nothing, like everything else. But damn, what kinda person am i turning into, having such strange random dreams? As much as they are fascinating, they are haunting as well.I wonder, what then,am i going to find the next time i close those eyes?
