Planet Somnium Terra

That's it,if i have a planet at the very edge of the universe,this is what i am going to call it.Planet Somnium Terra,and it is not as if the possibility is zero or less.Think about it,we are constantly looking up into the night sky,and who can say that every inch of that sky has been studied through and through,from where we are to the deepest reaches of space,through the lenses of the best telescopes?Even the best telescope can only gather so much light,see so far and we can only comprehend so much.It takes two hours for the sun's light to reach Pluto,and by the time it does every moment of day on that planet is history,in a way.Bear in mind,that light travels at LIGHTSPEED,that is eight,multiply by ten to the power of eight,metres per second.That is how far stars are from us,and who knows?Why might just be looking at a distant planet,not known to humans,despite being totally oblivious to it.

Anyway,so staring up into the night sky as i stepped out of my mother's car,despite the haze that returned over the weekdays to Singaporean's dismay,i looked in between the distant stars,far apart from each other and wondered if the speck i was staring at,that point in the sky,might have an unknown planet hovering in space,waiting for somebody to name them,to discover them,to learn about and explore them with our telescopes.And if that person is me,me being the first person to set eyes upon it,then shouldnt the planet be named after me?Besides,i think if every person on planet Earth is given a chance to name one unknown planet,there will still be a lot to spare in the universe.After all,the universe is expanding at the speed of light as we speak,and who knows how many planets are created along the way?Don't be too selfish atronomers,and start naming planets with ridiculous numerical names.Spare the rest of mankind's population some thoughts,eh?

Anyway,so i was pondering how my planet is going to be like.But first thing first,allow me to give a little background on where the name of my planet came about.The name "Planet Somnium Terra" came from...well,out of nowhere.It just sort of made sense as i attempted translations of different languages on Babelfish.I stumbled upon a website that translates English to Latin,which was a suitable language to name a planet after.After all,almost all the language has their roots from Latin,and which other language is more suitable to be used to name an ancient planet in the far reaches of space?'Somnium' would translate to 'Dreams',while 'Terra' translates to 'Land'.So "Planet Somnium Terra" would translate to "Planet Dreamland".Cheese,yes.But who gives a shit,it is MY planet.

Let's go into details.

Planet Somnium Terra is a strange planet.It is a quarter of the size of our Earth,and much part of it is covered by oceans.There are two major continents on this planet.'Viridis' and 'Exstasis',which vaguely translates to 'Green' and 'Amaze'.On 'Viridis' is where the forests are,like the ones on Earth.But not the dreaded Tropical forests,but perhaps Coniferous and Deciduous type of landscape through out.This is where nature is at it's most primitive form,where it is untouched by civilisation,where mountain ranges stretches for thousands of miles,and reaches higher than Everest.The winter on Somnium Terra is a strange one,and drastically different from Earth's.It snows,and despite that fact you'd feel warm,walking barefooted through the lands.But it is not 'snow' we refer to the falling flakes,but 'Lacrima',or 'Tears'.

In winter the coastal sea freezes,and you can ice-skate on these lands with no fear of falling through at all.These are the 'Vas Terra',or 'Glasslands',where you can see through the ice while making an ice angel,and watch as the creatures of the deep oceans swim pass beneath you.You never need warm clothes,because it never chills you to the bones.And similarly,if you decide to wear warm clothes for a change,you will never feel warm because,you will never sweat on Somnium Terra.

It is rather different on Exstasis,however.On Exstasis that is where the civilisation is.I'm not too sure about lifeforms yet,but perhaps in the days to come i might be able to come up with a full ecosystem for those.But before that happens,allow me to introduce you to the land of Exstasis.On Exstasis everybody would be cultured,and they speak the language of 'Kinokunish' or 'Borderian',which are the common languages you hear in bookstores like Kinokuniya and Borders.Though not too much different from English,the topics of discussion and the conversations are usually more sophisticated,cultured and relevant.Of course,in any society there cannot be a case without music.And the music played on Somnium Terra will strictly be music from my own playlist,and the songs by the bands on my playlist.No Hip-Hop,Chinese or Japanese music will be available,and because the people are cultured,they will appreciate my decision.

Somehow,the scientists on my planet have created a way to transport books from Earth to my planet,and thus i'd always have the latest books at hand.We have the best coffee on this planet,and you can sit by the lake and watch the suns set in the horizon.There are five moons and three suns on my planet.The moons are called 'Venus'(Godess of Love and Beauty),'Speciosus'(Beautiful),'Ferveo'(Glow),'Senium'(Melancholy) and 'Animus'(Memories).The suns would be called 'Levis'(Light),'Incendia'(Fire) and 'Spero'(Hope).

Yeah,i sound like a mad person.Despite going through all the troubles naming the places and things,imagining this planet out of thin air,i am still sitting here in my air-conditioned room,wondering how the hell i came up with the above mentioned bullshit in the first place.But i guess,there is no harm building castles in the sky,like Tolkien mustve done when he started his work on The Silmarillion.Oh well,perhaps like Tolkien,i might figure out a whole history of the planet,from the Gods to the Devils,from the Angels to the Demons,from the Heros to the cowards,the battles and the liberations.Haha.This is so insteresting,but before that comes,this is me,from Planet Somnium Terra,out.
