In the Genes

It is in the genes to be strange, you cannot alter such a thing.I mean, you can try to influence the way a person thinks of course, the way the PAP people try to influence your impression of them by wearing white everywhere.Which is kinda sick if you think about it,the way they flowed out of Serangoon Stadium yesterday night after a rally, gathering at the bus stop like wandering ghosts.

I have to admit that my family does have a strange mix of genes.I always wonder what the fuss is about around soccer.I mean,it's a sport, and i myself was an avid fan of basketball a couple of years ago when the Lakers were dominating the NBA scene. But now that i have other interests,i dont find sports appealing anymore. It's strange, how the friends around me are always talking about soccer, playing soccer, betting on soccer, and i will be there listening to strange club names and trying to make sense out of them.Soccer to me is like cricket to the rest of the world other than India, really.

I pride myself,in a way, that i am unique in the sense that i have no interest in cars and soccer,or computer games like the rest of the male population in Singapore.I mean, how many people like me do you find, being like that really. And mind you,you shouldnt take nerds and geeks into consideration, because i am clearly not part of the hopeless breed.Pick a guy off the streets, and he is probably crazily into computer games, soccer, cars,or any of the above.I am strange,so sue me for it.

But then again,it doesnt matter what i think sometimes.I was asked why i have no interest in the above mentioned interests, like most guys have. The way i see it,is that the things i enjoy doing, enjoy more, like books and movies, are like investments of sorts.

Picture yourself being a person, man or woman, not knowing me at all.You come to my place, and you take a stroll into my room. Now,looks are of course not the definitive thing about people, but first impressions are of course important. What would you make of this guy, with rows after rows of computer games and soccer magazines on their shelves,in contrast to a person who has rows and rows of books and Dvds?

I mean, putting myself in the stranger's shoes,i think i'd have a better impression of the latter scenario. It feels better i guess,to be surrounded by books and stuff.I understand that having a craze over books is not exactly the most masculine interest in the world, but words happen to be the most powerful medium in this world to cause chaos. So i guess in a way, soccer dims in comparison to books.I triumph, you fanatics lose. One to nothing.
